SONY BRAVIA KD55XF9005 Turns off few seconds after turning on?!

Hello guys,

I’m hoping this is an easy fix! It’s been one of those really small but irritating things which has been going on for months now.

I turn on the tv with the sky Q remote which turns on both the sky and tv. The tv comes on, shows the sky menu and then turns off again.

I then have to turn the tv on again.

Seems odd to turn a tv on twice for it to work… any ideas?

Thank you!

Hi Hannah,

I found BRAVIA Sync settings on my TV. IT was already set to "on" for all categories.

In the device list, the only device listed was my SONY Blueray player,

The SKY Q Box was not listed as a compatible device.

It says it would automaticlly list any compatible devices connected by HDMI, and there was no setting I could find to search and set some device for Bravia Sync.

Hi @krthama   Try turning off HDMI control on your Blu-ray player and see if that makes a difference with turning on your Sky Q.

Hey krthama,

Hope this helps, and let us know the outcome as well!

No, today also, it shut off as soon as I switched it on using the Sky remote.

Disabling the Bluray as a sync option, did not also seem to help. It did not alter the switch off behaviour, and it didn't make the Sky box appear as a compatible option either.

All this has only started happening after the last firmware update. It was fine before.

Since I can see that you've basically tried everything recommended, and you said that this happened after the update?

Have you tried to reach out for Sony support? cause I think that I've seen a few posts here talking about the same thing, and that Sony is acknowledging that it's a software related issue.

So, maybe check if your TV is one of the affected models?

I am connected via a virgin box and am having the same problem with my TV switching off a few seconds after switching on and then switching back on. Its very frustrating. This only started happening after the last firmware update V6.7165 was installed. I have tried various suggestions for correcting this but non worked. I understand that a new update will be issued to correct this but God knows when.😖

@johnglo-21 @krthama @SkyNet404

I have a theory that the Sky or Virgin box doesn’t know the TV is on already from the single keypress that switches both Sky box and TV on, and so asks the TV to turn on, but this toggles it off instead.

Can you set the Sky remote to only turn the Sky box on? Then maybe when the Sky box sends a CEC command for the TV to turn on, this will have the intended effect.

Worth a try, anyway….

Ok, I see where a little confusion can arise.

I don't mean that the TV "switches off", as in "it goes back to stand by, and I have to switch it on again"

I mean it switches off. like it crashes, and then it switches on, like it reboots itself. the screen goes all pixelly, and then it goes black and the sony animation happens, it shows the android logo and starts up again. It then works properly for the rest of the day.

Only a Sony TV owner would think that was a distinction that wasn’t worth spelling out 🤣🤣🤣
