Sony KD-66XE9005

Hi everyone,

My 65 inch 900e has terrible edge light bleed on the left and right edges running vertically top to bottom. The colours in this area are washed out and occur in every input. I was hoping this issue was intensified by the September software update as I haven’t noticed this since January 2018 when I purchased the TV. Since I saw this edge bleed in late October, it’s really annoying. I don’t even know if this is light bleeding as the effect varies form intensity depending on the content. However, this line is always there as if on standby. I contacted Sony and they told me to just adjust picture settings which didn’t help at all.

any tips ?

Hi @Ashenxe9005,

That doesn't sound good. I suggest you take some pictures of all problems with different types of content, include the home screen and also the SONY/Android logo during restart. But first reset the Standard picture profile to default. Then select the Standard picture profile before taking all your pictures. Post all pictures here so we can take a look.

Cheers,

Dutchice

Hi

Thanks again for the reply. I can't upload them directly here as I tried and the image type wasn't recognized.

As I tried with Jpeg, it said I've already uploaded and can try in 24 hours.

Let me know if this google drive link works

It is honestly hard to see the edge bleed mainly on the left as these were taken in daylight. I also selected some I sent Sony earlier.

Hi Ashenxe9005,

I've found this link on the Sony website, I think you should check it out.

Hi

Thank you for the article @Win_88

I did find this before but the recommendations don’t help at all. I am fully aware that LED LCD’s do have light bleeding. But the 900e TV shouldn’t have edge light bleed issue which is my source of disappointment. I’m ok with movie black bars leaking light and clouding in dark scenes. However, I will not accept that a Full Array Local Dimming Tv that I purchased for £1,549 has worse edge light bleeding than my cheap £500 edge lit LG tv which is honestly better. I honestly want to return this dissapointing TV. I have already contacted Sony which also told me to adjust picture settings and my place of purchase isn’t taking any responsibility. I’m honestly losing my patience here. I have a TV that still has a manufacturer warranty but nobody is taking responsibility to resolve my

issue.

Hi @Ashenxe9005,

Thanks for uploading your pictures. I have taken the time to go through all the pictures you have uploaded a number of times. I clearly see some lines on picture 1, 2 and 7 to 13. But those lines are only reflections of your curtains on the screen. The lines can not be seen in picture 3 as it seems that there is a reflection of your window instead. Probably your curtains were left half open on that picture. But the lines can't be seen on picture 4, 5 and 6 either since the room is dark enough for no reflection of the window or curtains to be visible. So just perhaps I am missing the lines you are seeing. How about if you help us see where these lines are by marking the location of these lines on your pictures with an arrow of some sort.

It just entirely could be that they do exist but are not showing up in the pictures you have uploaded. Based on what I have been able to see so far, I am afraid the support team will not classify any issue with your TV to be out of specification.

Keep us posted!

Cheers,

Dutchice

That level of edge bleed (left hand line) is pretty standard on the XE to be honest, my 49XE9005 does the same, its not always noticable, usually on darkish scenes (like you have shown) but not totally dark/black scenes.

Unfortunately even if you changed it for another XE you would probably find the same issue. I have seen it reported widely. I am not sure if the later models do it. Its a pain to be honest but one of those things.

Hi @stormyuk

It is unfortunate that it is common on these FALD televisions. I will try to return my purchase.

Hi @dutchice

I emailed you some marked pictures earlier. The support team did surely notice the lines as they told me to adjust pictures settings to compensate. I am honestly pass the point of trying to convince Sony the issue is significant. They surely are aware of the lines and aren't taking the right steps to help. As a consumer, I have the right within warranty to return the defective product that I am not pleased with. I am currently waiting for my place of purchase, Co Op Electrical, to contact Sony and agree on a return. Anyway, I am looking to call Co Op and Sony again soon.

I sincerely thank you for your help

Hello @Ashenxe9005 I can't confirm all FALD TVs do it, I just have seen the line you see on the egde (left hand side of the panel) widely reported, its about 1cm in width. I also see it on my TV.

The blooming you are getting in other shots (especially the black screen with the menu bars and info) seems excessive. You will always get some blooming around text on a black backgroud as the backlight has brighter to display the text, I usually only see that kind of blooming with off angle viewing on my TV. Most FALD TVs will bloom like that some extent due to the way the backlight sections work but you could try changing the backlight setting or the dimming settings or as you say if you are not happy, return it to the retailer and pick something else.
