STILL No firmware update (december 2018) for european KD-ZD9 TV (And For The Love of GOD FIX 3D ISSU

To ALL Sony "engineers"
-----------------------------

***** are you doing? Or not doing? Flagship TV from 2016 still can not show HDR in Youtube app (built in)? HDR flagship TV From 2016,  mind you! STILL can not show HDR from the MOST popular app on the planet!?

Oreo update for the EUROPEN MARKET? EU - you know - 500+ MILLION market...when? This summer? 2020? 2026? That would be 10 years from the inception of the freaking TV!

3D issue with the inverted forground and background - ie background object moved forth and forground object moved back - that SOFT RESET fixes - FIX THAT M.F.! Or at least give us A BUTTON to RESET the 3D Only - NOT THE WHOLE F. TV! Every second day for us that have 3D collection.

For last but not least, NO Customer "SERVICE" replies, PLEASE NO. ONLY from Sony "engineers"!

You muppets!

Over and out.

Good news folks!

My issues are GONE with Oreo update!

My findings after several days of testing:

3D issue with inverted image ie. background object moved forth and foreground object moved back: FIXED finally, no more soft resets! I have done at least 100 soft resets last 12 months before Oreo - soft resets no more!

HDR support in Youtube app: Works beautiful! Youtube app is much more stable also, no more hiccups.

ARC with Marantz sr 7013: Works perfect.

Good job Sony engineers! Excuse my language earlier, the reason I bought ZD9 was 3D and HDR and it is first now it is working as intended.

Thanks again!

Hi @DanteSwe

Lovely rant but unfortunately on this customer to customer community, your fellow muppets are not Sony Customer "Service" or even Sony "engineers" but just fellow customers like yourself.

If you would like a reply from Sony "engineers" you need to contact Sony direct for your Country or Region. In the UK it is  Sony UK Support.

Good luck

The update to Oreo is available on Sonys website, you could download from there and update from USB

Hi Joel,

Not really:

***

Since I have Marantz receiver (SR 7013) I am F****d. Because of the ARC-issue and only GOD KNOWS how many undiscovered issues there are yet to be discovered. For crying out loud, this is Sony "engineers" we are talking about! Those guys (or girls or hens - pund intended) have never heard of assembler let alone java or c++. If I am to guess they are probably using Kindergarten kids to write the code - there is NO WAY adult person can EVER write utterly garbage code Sony "engineers" are capable of.

This is no conspiracy talk but I also highly suspect Sony "engineers" are located in North Korea. Reason I suspect that is, they have been COMPLETELY cut from the Internet for the last (at LEAST) 20+ years.

Over for this time.

Yes the v6.6510 firmware update (v8 Oreo) is now available for EU users with a ZD9 and other Bravia models too.

As far as I can tell from what I can see here in the UK, v6.6510 is only available via direct download from the Sony website at the moment, it's not yet available as a OTA update when I perform an update check on my TV.

I can understand that a lot of people have been anxiously waiting for this update since the earlier v6.5830 caused issues. Personally still being on v7 Nougat here, I'm in the position of cautiously considering this update now.

I do have reservations about updating however because there is at least one story in these forums where somebody attempted to update with the earlier v6.5830 and it killed their TV to the point where Sony won't support their damaged machine at all because they're declaring it a hardware failure.

Today I updated my receiver Marantz SR 7013 and the ARC is broken now! It cuts sound off and on every 2-3 seconds...ie sound stuttering...I tryed everything, NOTHING helps...

It worked PERFECT before I updated Marantz...:(

I had a perfect working system for a whole week...WHY did I update Marantz, WHY oh WHY...:( ??? Well because it said that the new firmware had "enhancement and stability improvements"....well, THANKS MARANTZ for that one!

Here is the latest non working Marantz firmware:

Question:

Are SONY and MARANTZ AWARE OF EACH OTHER ??? Marantz is under Sound United umbrella together with Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo, Intergra...95 % of home theater receiver market? If Marantz HDMI CEC is NOT WORKING with SONY TV then 95% of ARC connections in home theaters ARE BROKEN? HOW ON EARTH IS THIS POSSIBLE? Someone...ANYONE...???

PS For God Sake NEVER BUY A CAR with INTERNET connection and AUTOMATIC updates, NEVER! Trust me on that one! NEVER!

After further investigation, swapping HDMI cables back and forth between Sony ZD9 and Marantz SR 7013 I concluded that the ARC CEC is incompatible with Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI v 2.1 cable (Belkin cable supports 4K HDR (Dolby Vision, HDR 10) that was working ok prior to Marantz firmware update.

My old Monoprice Ultra High Speed cable is working ok with the new Maratnz firmware:
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15427

Both Monoprice and Belkin cables are 2 meters and passing 4k HDR 60 Hz RGB 4:4:4 between Sony Playstation 4 PRO and Marantz SR 7013. However, Belkin is dropping sound in conjuction with ZD9 and ARC (working ok prior to Marantz firmware update).

I think it is a clocking issue between ZD9 and Marantz, nothing wrong with the cable. The Belkin cable is capable of 48 Gbps, 8k so it will be pretty common going forward.

I will report the incompability problem to the Marantz, can someone forward this ARC issue to Sony technicians?

Thanks in advance!

Problem solved

==============

I have solved the problem with Belkin cable after Marantz firmware update. How did I did it? Well, simple

Once upon a time I remember reading on a forum how a fellow ARC user had sound dropouts and solved it by reversing the cable ends (ie he disconnected the end that was connected to the receiver and connected it to the TV and viceversa).

I was sceptical but I give it a try. I connected the Belkin cable between Sony ZD9 and Marantz and I had audio dropouts every 2-3 seconds. Then I disconnected the same cable and reversed the end of the cable...Voila, it works! Everything works perfect and no more audio dropouts!

I suspect there is some lookup-table in ZD9 or Marantz and when the cable was reversed it registered as a new entry with correct clock and timing values.

Hope it helps someone out there with similar problems!
