Why have Sony abandoned FreeSat from their TV's???

Hi all,

Why have Sony abandoned FreeSat from their TV's???

This would be a great addition especially if this could be used and flicking between this and YouView would be amazing.

Also recording from either or both.

having a two tuner YouView and dual tuner FreeSat would be immensely popular.

i fail to understand the logic of not

Isn't the 9005 the TV optimised for the new console generation?

@williamfsmith

How so?

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

The KD49XG9005 is optimised for the scrapheap. Sony maybe regretting making this tv as it is not compatible with services across their product range.

Why is there only a Simply Electricals link for this information when searching for this "Freesat upgrade" for 2019-20 Sony TV's? Sony have no information on this at all.

My 2020 KD-XH8505 received a firmware upgrade on 16/11/20 but nowhere does it state in the firmware info on Sony's website that it introduces a FreeSat EPG option with Satellite connections.
I currently have an 10 year old Humax FoxSat HDR that won't last forever and at some point I might want to divert the satellite connections to the TV. Preumably the FreeSat EPG (if it appears) would not be able to make use of the TV's USB HDD recording system that exists on the Freeview EPG??

From what I know Sony TVs aren't satellite certified and the don't guarantee the functionality of the guide on it.
