New IFA products
We like to use our annual press conference at IFA as an opportunity to announce our latest products, innovations and technologies, and this year was no exception. But don’t worry if you missed out on our live-stream of the conference, because we’ve compiled everything that you need to know below...
Colourful new Hi-Res Audio lineup
First and foremost, we announced our new range of ‘h.ear’ headphones and a fresh Walkman model that will spice up anyone’s world with incredible Hi-Res Audio quality and eye-catching colours.
The h.ear series features both over-the-head and in-ear style headphones. The over-the-head ‘h.ear on’ models feature a gorgeous, minimalistic design that fits snugly over the user’s ears compared to conventional headphones, while the in-ear ‘hear.in’ models are the world’s first Hi-Res headphones equipped with digital noise cancelling functionality. Plus, with a choice of five unique colours to choose from, they’re ideal for those looking to enjoy superior sound while also making a memorable fashion statement.
We’re also releasing the NW-ZX100HN Walkman, the latest model in the ZX series that represents the ultimate pursuit of great sound quality. It features Hi-Res digital noise cancelling capabilities, and will also be sold together with our h.ear in headphones so you can dive right into your Hi-Res music collection without being distracted by the outside world.
The Xperia Z5 family
Introducing our latest smartphones, the flagship 5.2" Xperia Z5 and the 4.6" Xperia Z5 Compact, which manages to fit all of the functionality and features of the larger model into a compact body. Both of these new models feature our most powerful smartphone camera yet, with a 23 megapixel sensor and the fastest autofocus that’s ever been seen in a smartphone.
Both models also come with a fingerprint sensor on the power button for an easy and ultra-secure way of unlocking your device, and as always the gorgeous design is waterproof and dust-proof - a relief for even the clumsiest of mobile phone users.
But these two models aren’t all. We’re also launching the Xperia Z5 Premium, which has been proudly heralded as the first smartphone in the world to feature a 4K display. This means that not only can you capture 4K video using the phone’s camera, but you can then watch it back in native 4K quality on the phone’s display itself. You can then simply attach your Z5 Premium to a 4K TV via MHL connection and share your latest 4K footage with family and friends on the big screen.
And finally, for the full Sony smartphone experience (or should that be Xperi-ence?) there’s the new MDR-NC750 Hi-Res headset, which features noise cancelling and is the only tool you’ll need to unlock the full potential of the audio technology integrated into the Xperia range.
BRAVIA X91C 4K TV
Having previously been available in the U.S for a few months now, we’re finally introducing the slim and super-sized BRAVIA X91C 4K TV to European markets. This model has all of the same features as our X90C model including the new 4K Processor X1 and advanced Sony picture technologies including Triluminos and X-Reality Pro, but boasts a breathtaking 75-inch display.
And let’s not forget about Android TV, the new platform that allows for unparalleled access to a multitude of content, intuitive operation and unrivaled integration and cross-functionality with smartphones. Think of it less like a TV and more like a complete entertainment hub.
News about our Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) system has been circulating for a while now, but it’s here at IFA where you find the future of gaming on display for the first time ever in Europe. By simply wearing Project Morpheus on your head, you’re transported to an immersive and hyper-realistic virtual world that really does need to be experienced to be believed. It’s as if you’ve been thrown right inside the very game that you’re playing.
Every tilt, rotation and movement of your head is precisely tracked so that as you move, the virtual world in which you inhabit also moves naturally and intuitively in real-time. Plus, with a high-resolution OLED display and the ability to render images at 120 frames-per-second, Project Morpheus produces amazingly smooth visuals and achieves a sense of presence that pushes the boundaries of gaming.
Life Space UX
We’ve been making some major progress when it comes to Life Space UX - our range of products that help to create entirely new ways of interfacing with the physical spaces in our home - and we were proud to showcase two new additions to the family at IFA this year. Despite its compact 10-inch size, the Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector is able to project an image between 21-inches and 50-inches in size and can be set up wherever you see fit, whether that be a kitchen worktop or bedroom wall. There’s also the Symphonic Light Speaker, a light-illuminating speaker that fills every corner of the room with crystal clear sound.
Both of these new products, along with the already available 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector and LED Bulb Speaker, aim to fundamentally change the way users interact with their living spaces, and are a giant leap forward towards a more modern and intuitive way of living.
