Hi,
I've recently uncovered my old Sony Handycam DCR-IP5E Micromv and would like to connect this to iMovie through the Thunderbolt 2 port on my MacBook Air. I can't find any of the old cables, and wondered if anyone could kindly guide me towards what cables/connectors I need to obtain to allow me to do so.
Many thanks,
Bewildered

Hi Terionree and welcome.
Have a look at Page 201 onwards in your manual which can be downloaded here:-
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/3071/30711331M.pdf
It implies that tape export is by an iLink (4 pin firewire) so you will probably need:
A. 4-pin to 9-pin Firewire cable
B. Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter
There may be some suggestions on the Sony Support website for your model:-
https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/camcorders-tape-camcorders/dcr-ip5e
EDIT - this looks like what you want!
I see a ‘Tape Importing Guide’ there. Have a look at this:-
