FDR AX53 LOCK-ON FOCUS FUZZINESS

Hello,

I’m very disappointed with my new FDR AX53 SONY camera.

I was looking forward to this model because it was announced as an innovative miracle.

I have already updated with 1.01 software that corrected fuzziness during zooming.

But the LOCK-ON focus marked moving figures or faces remains unusable.

Sometimes faces are sharp but mostly out of focus.

In addition, while panning pictures are completely fuzzy.

And to top it all, while recorded with HD 50p and worked in 50p project (on Final Cut Pro X) pictures seem to be very jerky.

 Tests:

Is there any further software update which could solve this problem…

Or

has anyone any idea what I have to do?

Because

I’m needed urgent solution In connection with FDR AX53 lock-on focus fuzziness!!!!!!

Thanks,

Csaba Antók

Hi Everybody suffering from AX 53,

Since there have been no comments so far, as I see it, everyone is resigned that this model AX53 is useless. My former Sony PJ740VE was more reliable, unfortunatelly I sold it waiting for AX53.
...gigantic marketing, false statements, basic errors after software update 1.01...

Three tests as a reminder:

AX53 Auto Face Detection and Lock-on Focus fuzziness

AX53 fuzzy and judding images while panning

In my country (Hungary) the Central Sony Service helpless saying these are software problems solved or not by Sony someday.

Or no one experienced I wrote about?

Hi,

I'm very disapponited that SONY doesn't release an enhancement software to correct:

1. LOCK-ON FOCUS fuzziness

2. judding images while panning

3. jerkiness in 4K with 25p

Check out the 3 test videos (my former comment).

(Former correction software 1.01 released in April has not solved these problems.)

The most annoying bug that Lock-on Focus/Auto Face Detection don't work when backgrounds are brighter and sharper than faces or shapes, so I can't sharply follow a man walking on a street.

I've thought that SONY couldn't afford these errors and has corrected them.

I'm wrong,

Csaba53

I don't think Sony read our forum comments.

So nothing is done regarding our reported bugs.

Hi,

Regarding the 'jerkyness'.

Page 139 of the user manual regarding frame rates:

Available frame rate settings

XAVC S 4K:

30p(*)/25p(**)

24p(*)

XAVC S HD:

60p(*)/50p(**)

30p(*)/25p(**)

24p(*)

AVCHD

60i(*)/50i(**)

60p(*)/50p(**)

24p(*)/25p(**)

Descriptions of menu items

60i(*)/50i(**):

This is an ordinary setting for recording AVCHD movies.

60p(*)/50p(**):

You can record movies with a data volume twice that of 60i(*) or 50i(**)/30p(*) or 25p(**) per

unit time. When you play a movie recorded with this setting on a TV, the TV must be

compatible with 60p(*) or 50p(**) movie playback and you have to set [HDMI Resolution] to

1080p.

30p(*):

It is recommended that you use a tripod when recording movies with this setting.

24p(*)/25p(**):

You can record movies which provide an atmosphere closer to that of film images with this

setting. It is recommended that you record movies with this setting using a tripod.

Please note the section in red, as the only frame rate for 4K available is 25p (for a UK model) it would appear Sony recommend using a tripod. I therefore think that Sony have this wrapped up.

Whilst in this mode without recording try panning the camera and check out the viewfinder, you can actually see the 'jerkyness' happening in real time - as if the processor cannot keep up with the detail. This is what you then see in play back. The only solution presently is to either use a tripod as recommended or as I have learned to pan slowly trying to keep the image within the shot and reduce any erratic movement.

I agree it is not ideal, especially if you want to record 4K and the subject is dynamic - I wish Sony could sort this but I fear this model is just not up to it. Perhaps a more expensive model down the line. The predecessor and more expensive FDR-AX100 also has this issue.

Regards
