Hi redheugh and welcome.

Sadly, the USB connection is not supported by Vista or Windows 7.  No working USB driver is available.

The usual method of transfer with Windows 7 is to use an iLink cable (DV, firewire), and import using Windows 7 compatible software - Windows Movie Maker works OK.  Firewire is supported generically by Windows and no drivers are required.

This depends on you having an iLink/firewire port on your Windows 7 PC - or at least an ExpressCard Slot or PC Card Slot which will take a firewire card.
