HELLO! HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP! I HAVE A DCR-HC14E HANDYCAM BUT ITS NOT WORKING PROPERLY NOW! WHEN I TURN IT ON WANTING TO RECORD SOMETHING THE THE LCD SCREEN IS BLACK (ALL THE MENU BUTTONS COME UP!) AND ALSO TRYING TO USE THE VIEW FINDER IS THE SAME ITS BLACK!! ALSO IF I WANT TO WATCH AN OLD TAPE I HAVE DONE IT COMES UP WITH LINES GOING DOWN THE SCREEN!!

Hi spud1981 - welcome to the Sony Forums.

As far as the black screen is concerned - either the lens cap has been left on and needs to be unclipped from the front of the camera (I have done this countless times :smileyhappy:) or there is a fault with the lens and sensor itself.

Having lines down the screen during playback may just be an issue with one or two tapes in particular - has this happened with every single tape that you have tried?

If these problems persist I would advise getting in touch with Sony customer support to run through any other available options and, if necessary, you can find out more about possible repair costs. Full contact details for customer services are available here:
