VGN-P11Z BIOS Boot Sequenz

Hallo Freunde,

ich habe heute das Vaio VGN-P11Z/Q geliefert bekommen. Ein nettes Gerät aber nur ohne Vista.

Ich habe als erstes gleich das neuste Bios drauf geflasht und erfolgreich auf BIOS VERSION R2071U3 "geupdatet".

Nun habe ich - den ganzen Samstag lang!! - versucht Win7 oder EasyPeasy mit meinem USB Stick drauf zu spielen. NIX! Ich raste gleich aus, weil das BIOS Boot Up Menü nicht kommt! Ich habe sämtliche gängige Tasten probiert (auch F11) und es passiert einfach nix!
Im BIOS habe ich "External Drive" auf Enabled und auf erster Stelle gesetzt! Dann habe ich Win7 einfach in WinVista installiert...aber so will ich es nicht haben.

Ich kenne mich gut mit PCs usw. aus....nur hier bin ich ratlos...ich habe auch andere USB Sticks ausprobiert...

Weiss einer mir zu helfen?

HI wiliam, also in der OrginalBiosVersion von Vaio ists immer F2 um ins Bios zu kommen, ESC um auszuwählen wovon du starten willst, und F10 um die Festplatten recovery zu starten, denke aber mal F2 haste ja schon gefunden. Komisch finde ich nur da du ja selbst sagst das du ahnung hast, und schon was probiert hast, das es mit Esc nicht klappt, muss wohl an deiner gefalshten Version liegen wenn da gar kein Menü kommt

Einen Punkt noch, "boot from external drive" kann auf externe DVD/ CD Laufwerke eingeschränkt sein, so das USB / flashmedien nichtannerkannt werden. Ich werde aber mal nächste Woche aleksey, den russischen expert hier im forum fragen, der besitzt auch ein P11, und nutzt Win 7 ohne das Bios vorher geflasht zu haben. Wäre mal interessant ob er von CD oder von USB-Stick installiert hat

PS: Denke im 2. Satz haste dich verschrieben oder ? :smileygrin:

Ich hab wirklich alles versucht, ich teste gleich nochmal das mit ESC aus. Ich finde das BIOS ist zum kotzen...viel zu mager und spärlich...

Ich habe auch "boot external drive" deaktiviert und es probiert...

Das wäre aber sehr nett, wenn du den Experten aleksey fragst. Ich teste einfach mal weiter...es kann schließlich nicht sein, dass dieses kleine Ding mich veräppeln will

Edit: Ich hab das probiert und es kommt nix um auszuwählen. Ich glaub die BIOS Version ist verbuggt!!

Naja und mit dem 2. Satz kapier ich momentan nicht...Bin heute nicht mehr so aufnahmefähig

Also er scheints mit nem externen DVD Laufwerk gemacht zu haben, meint jedoch mit nem Tool was er später postet dir helfen zu können.
Zusätzlich habe ich ihn gebeten ein Bild von der Bios Einstellung zu posten. Evtl. hilft dir das ja mehr, denn ich denke nicht das es an den Daten auf dem Stick liegt, denn normal klappts zumindest mit LInux :-9

Hi there!

Here you are the MS's utility to make a bootable flashcard with W7.
Setup the utility, chose the path to the W7's distributive, make the flashcard bootable with W7(you'll need up to 4Gbs flashcard depending on the distributive of W7 you have).

Then go to P-series BIOS (hit F2 when you boot it and see logo VAIO), in the BOOT section in BOOT CONFIGURATION chose EXTERNAL DEVICE BOOT to ENABLE and in BOOT PRIORITY set EXTERNAL DEVICE as a first thing to boot. Then exit saving changes to BIOS, insert the flashcard with W7 and install it.

Hi akelesy,

thank you for your help and posting.

The MS Tool says "The selected file is not a valid Iso file..." Im dowloading the Win7RC ISO from the web and will try again.

Edit: Ok, The RC7 ISO File is OK!

I Enabled the External Device Boot in the Bios (I updated the new BIOS version R2071U3 from the sony support page) and the external device is the first device to boot!

Nothing happened...Im pressing Esc or F11....the BBS will not appear....my USB Sticks and extern HDDs are definetely OK and bootable! I think something is wrong with the new BIOS Version!

So I cant install Win7 or a Linux distribution or format C: and all the crap Add Software..

Im not a nooby User...this is definetely a Problem by Sony Vaio.

I will never buy a Vaio again...this is sick and unbelievable.

Hm... I should have added to my post that you don't need to press any F-buttons after changing boot sequence. Just insert the the bootable flashcard and turn on the notebook. Try it. If it's not then it's kinda strange, 'cos I've already tested that thing working on P11 and P19.

Im forced to use Vista...

Any Chance to "downgrade" the BIOS or force Sony to make a new BIOS for this device?

Well, usually not, but as this Bios Update makes the Vaio unrecoverable in your description, I'll ask the USpport team at Brussels to check this out. Hopefully this will be patched ASAP.

Recovery with F10 works, but booting with a external medium (USB Stick, HDD) doesnt.
