Cybershot dsc-HX300

I have not used the camera a great deal, and it is getting old, however I have the E62:10 error.

When I looked this up - it appears it is a very common problem with Sony cameras.

So very  disappointed.

Hi,

If a camera is not used frequently, the grease in the camera may gum up, which could then lead to the error described.

Cheers

Peter

@Peter_S. explained what is the cause.

The best option is to send the camera for repair to a Sony repair center.

You can try to 'repair' it yourself.

Some people report success, some don't, but these actions are at your own risk.

It's on youtube.

Maybe do a factory reset after having gone through the procedure.

Hi @mervyn02,

You are not isolated.
The E:62:10 error is a known, very frequent, and recurring error message that happens on 70% to 90% of the SONY Cybershot DSC-HX models (HX300, HX400, HX400V etc).
More than 700 different forums (!!) are filled in with thousands of desperate customers complaining about this hidden defect. See the full list on the (non-commercial) website http://sony-e-62-10.atspace.cc.

Frequency studies and statistical models have been demonstrated and submitted to SONY support services.
They are aware since at least 2015 but they did never fix the problem nor accept to take it in charge.
It comes from a structural defect of the flex connector linking the motherboard to the Hall sensors at the end of the optical block.
Evidences have been gathered by several video's showing the tear of the connector after a common usage that corresponds to approximately the two years of legal warranty.
When the default happens during the warranty, SONY services simply replace the connector. It costs only a few euro's.
When the default happens after expiration of the warranty, SONY services require to change the full optical block. Then it costs nearly as much as a new device.

When confronted to these evidences, SONY services admitted that they could not justify it otherwise than by a planned obsolescence commercial strategy.
According to the law they must fix the hidden defect free of charge, as it already exists in all devices before they are sold.
However till now they still refuse to apply the law.

The full story, including official answers from SONY services, can be found on SONY's community in french, see

or translation in English here.
Links to evidences (pictures, video's, witnesses) are listed on http://sony-e-62-10.atspace.cc.

Mr SONY you have to take your responsibilities !

I also have error E62:10

Images seem unaffected unless I use digital zoom.

Far too expensive to repair.

Obvious Sony planned obsolescence.

Naturally will never buy or recommend Sony  again.

Shame as it was otherwise a fine bridge camera.

Very disappointed in what I thought was a respected company.

Hey User-Name23, I found this article which might be helpful: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/compact-cameras-dsc-hx-series/dsc-hx300/articles/00008857

Hi HannahEd01,
Thank you for your interest. This link is indeed the very first one indicated on the non-commercial website http://sony-e-62-10.atspace.cc.
Unfortunately the Sony page does not give any detailed explanation and all E:62 errors simply indicate "Issue of the image stabilisation" without any detail !
However, root cause of the problem, statistics and explanatory videos demonstrating the structured default are listed on the website above.
Sony assistance services have recognized that it comes from a politics of programmed obsolescence, see
https://community.sony.fr/t5/appareils-photo-compacts-cyber-shot/erreur-e-62-10-defaillance-du-stabi...
or translation in English here.
