RX100 M3: *Some* buttons have stopped working. Are there any tricks I could try in order to fix it?

Suddenly many of the buttons on my little RX100 M3 have stopped working and the camera has stopped doing things like focusing.

Specifically, the W/T zoom dial is not causing the lens to move (though the zoom icon does appear on the display when the dial is used, so the dial is communicating with the camera software), and the MOVIE, Fn, MENU and C buttons have stopped responding, as has the thumb wheel, except in MR (Memory Recall) mode. The shutter release, power and play buttons all are working, as is the mode dial. The LCD and viewfinder are working and the camera is able to take photographs, though it does not attempt to focus.

Since the play button button is working (which is a part of the internal thumb and wheel panel) and the zoom dial is working, I doubt this is a hardware issue in that sense.

I have tried taking the battery out for more than a minute and holding in the power button for a minute and then powering up the camera again, but this hasn't changed anything. Without the MENU button working, I don't know of a way to do a factory reset.

Is there anything obvious happening here? Is there some button lock engaged? What can I try to get this working again? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi archimime,

Welcome to the community.

I'll see if I can track down an answer. Maybe someone else in the community has an idea in the meantime.

Thanks,

Pascale

Hi archimime,

Welcome to our community!

I'd suggest to first make sure your camera is running the latest firmware and update it if needed. You can use this link if you are a Windows user or this one if you're a Mac user.

You can also try to initialise the camera back to factory settings. You'll find instructions on how to do that on this link.

If it's still happening I'd recommend having the camera inspected at the Sony service centre. You'll find their contact details here so you can arrange for sending it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
