RX100M7A

Hi, I have just purchased a new DSC-RX100V7A and have noticed that in the menu system under Network1/Wi-Fi Settings/ I am missing WPS Push, Access Point Set, and Disp MAC Address. when I compared my camera to a demo camera in a shop (on the left) they have all the above settings, see images below:Shops RX100M7 on left, mine on rightShops RX100M7 on left, mine on right

The only thing is that the shops RX100M7 is a year old and my RX100M7A is new. The A is just the fact that the camera comes with an adapter for charging.

Some people have said that Sony have removed the Wi-Fi settings from the latest models - is this correct or is it a fault do you think?

Many thanks for any help on this.

Hi MaggieGreene,

The new RX100M7A has had some functionality removed. It is no longer capable of charging the battery when it is in the camera via the USB cable, unlike the RX100M7 which can. Also some of the Wi-Fi cabability has been removed, it can longer connect to a router or a PC like the RX100M7 could.

I think Sony have been a bit underhand in not being honest or up front with what they have done. It looks like Sony are removing functionality (especially USB) to comply with EU regulations re USB-C. See image below from Reddit.

I am happy with the camera, It's just that it would have been more respectful if Sony had treated their customers (and their own staff selling the camera) with a bit more intelligence.

Many thanks,

Nick.

Hi @carsonofmars, on the right is the DSC-RX100M7A, and on the left is the DSC-RX100M7. The 100M7A is the newest model while the 100M7 is the oldest version. Despite Menu is slightly different, specs are the same for both models. You can check the specs of the DSC-RX100M7A here: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/cyber-shot-compact-cameras/dsc-rx100m7a/specifications And check the specs of the DSC-RX100M7 in this link: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/cyber-shot-compact-cameras/dsc-rx100m7/specifications
