Wifi won't connect on RX100 VI

Can anyone help me with my new camera please?  It works well but when I try to connect it to my home wifi I get a problem.  The camera shows my home wiwif network and a good signal.  I select it and enter my ten digit password for the wifi.  (Its been re-enetered and checked so i know it's correct).  The next screen shows a short row of asterissk - shorter than my 10 digit password I just entered.  The camera then won't connect to my wifi.  I am concerned that if this doesn't work I wont be able to get any updates to the camera.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Can you let me know what exactly you are trying to do?

Best wishes,

There's a setting in the RX100 VI menu to connect to wifi.  I assumed this might allow me to send picture form the camera to my Sony Bravia TV withour connecting wires.  When I go through the process on the camera it can "see" my home wifi network so I click it.  Then I input my password of 10 digits.  The next screen on the camera menu then shows a shortened number of starisks and fails to connect.

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry ** asterisks!  My wifi password is 10 characters long - and it's been double checked as I put it i the camera.  However the next screen shows ******  - about six characters.   I assume this is why it ca't connect

Hi lgcebr,

I'm not sure why wouldn't it connect but maybe if you try to enter the access point you'll be able to connect. You can find the steps in this link: https://bit.ly/2nRxsLu.

Hope this helps,

I had exactly the same situation today when I connected my new RX100 Mk6 to my home WIFI, I also typed a long ( 12 characters) password and when I hit OK to return to the next screen it only showed about a 5 character xxxxx password length but on entering that it accepted the password and connected to my WIFI correctly so I can only guess that the display will only show a shortened password but it accepts the correct "long" password, at least it did on mine.

I was having the same issue and did some research on the web. I have cut and pasted the following info. The displayed messages are not exactly what the camera or phone say but it may give you an idea of what's necessary to make it work:

From the camera viewer(playback, not the shooting mode), press on the menu button. FetLife

2. In the menu, select wifi icon>Send to smartphone>Select on Smartphone

3. On the iPad or iPhone, go to settings>network, and select your camera IMVU

4. Enter password that is shown on your camera viewer -- you only need to do this once. Canva

5. On the iPad or iPhone, launch "PlayMemories Mobile" (you have to download this app from the app store).

6. The transfer of photos happens automatically.

One more thing that might help some people. Once you do establish the connection the first time, you will be asked if PlayMemories Mobile is allowed to modify your photos. Say "yes". If somehow you manage to say "no", you won't be able to save the pictures from the camera to the iPhone. To remedy this, go to Settings > Privacy > Photos > PlayMemories and turn request access to On.

If you’re still having problems using Sony Cybershot wifi connection to mobile device I have found the solution. "Target device is impossible" is just a option, not an error. so don’t worry about it. You must disable your 3g/4g/LTE on your mobile device. It is interfering with the connection that your devices are trying to make. Then simply open your play mobile app to view photos.
