PRS-350 Adobe Digital Editions not recognising

To cut a very long story short I spent three hours on a webchat with Adobe last night and have been told to contact Sony which I've done but wondering if anyone can shed light in the interim.

I have a 2 year old PRS 350 and works fine no problem - Sony Reader or Reader for PC or whatever it's called these days recognises the device no problem whatsoever and I can download books onto the device.

Adobe Digital Editions however doesn't recognise the device - even after a factory reset the lot - thus it now makes it impossible for me to download and read Ebooks from my local libary - I'm at a stage where I'm about to bin the Ereader and give up and just go back to buying paper books again can anyone help me

But you must use only Adobe Digital Editions in order to manage Public Libraries?
(PRS-T1/2/3 can manage public libraries directly from the device via WiFi in this way http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/4445804113/ENG/contents/07/01/01/01.html  but I think that’s not possible with PRS-350)

In that case try to do this:
Use all library services with ADE, and then copy and paste files from PC to PRS-350 and/or ReaderforPC.
ADE has as default folder: C:\Users\[Current User]\Documents\My Digital Editions\
There, you’ll find all ebooks. Just copy them to another folder and then:
-paste directly on PRS-350 or
-load on ReaderforPC (Menu File-->Import file…) and then synchronize PRS-350

Non mi aspetto nulla. Non temo nulla. Sono libero. - I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I am free.   (N.K.)

Hi James,

welcome to the Sony User Community Forum..:smileyhappy:

Firstly I can not take credit for the answer below because the info was kindly provided by one of my contacts..

Even if Adobe Digital Editions no longer natively recognises your device as a ‘Bookshelf’ this shouldn’t prevent you enjoying Adobe DRM-protected epubs from your local library on your Reader. As long as you have checked ‘Check for epub file type association’ in your Reader for PC Preferences, you don’t need ADE as an intermediate application to slideload to your device. When you hit ‘download’ on the library’s website, the identifying file the library sends to your PC (called a .acsm file) will be opened and processed by Reader for PC not ADE, and the epub will be added to your Reader for PC library.

Hi “james.farmer84”
You say: “Adobe Digital Editions however doesn't recognise the device
But what exactly do you mean with this:
-In these 2 years ADE had recognized PRS-350 and now no more or
-ADE had never recognized PRS-350

I never purchased a PRS-350, but only newer Sony’s models.
I know that ADE doesn’t recognize the newer Sony’s reader devices (as Prs-T1/2/3). A Sony’s reader device just "… contains Adobe Reader Mobile software under license from Adobe Systems Incorporated...”, but it isn’t compatible with ADE. In this case it must be used ReaderforPC(Mac) software. But as I said, I don’t know about PRS-350.

On Mac, ADE doesn’t recognize any Sony’s Reader device!
Somebody ( http://forums.adobe.com/thread/770336 ) says that, in order to have PRS-350 recognized from ADE, you must first install on PC Sony’s Reader Library (not Readerfor PC). ( http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/PRS-350/updates )
(PRS-350 manuals http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/PRS-350/manuals ).
