Hi thanks for the reply 

my tv model number is KD-55XF8096

I rang support and they were supposed to email me with another way to update my tv but I think they took the email down incorrectly and I’ve not had a chance to ring them back.. 

I don’t think the update will have anything to do with what’s happening?? 

it seems like it’s mechanical if that makes sense
