micro hifi cmt-spz90db

Hi, I use my hifi a lot (much more since lockdown began), but it's mainly the CD or Tuner. I do use the tape deck sometimes, but today when i tried to use it, it started clicking and turned itself to standby. The tape deck also refused to open and when i got it open, it took a few goes before it closed. I removed the tape and turned off and on and the same thing happened. I unplugged it and tried again and the same thing - clicking then going to standby. does anyone know what the problem is? thanks in advance.

Hi,

Most likely it's a mechanical issue of the tape drive. When it's not used very often over time the grease inside gets gummy which leads to such problems. Therefore I would recommend to send the device to an authorized repair centre.

Cheers

Hi, thanks - yes, I agree. i opened the tape deck and I can clearly see the component that's clicking. I hope it doesn't cost too much to fix!

Did you get your system looked at?

I think, knowing the cost of such things that it may be more cost effective to just purchase a replacement.

Hi, yes there are several that are on Ebay, but it's hard to tell how much use they've had and therefore, may have a hidden fault. I opted to get it fixed. I found a specialist who charged me £80 in total (deposit, parts and labour). I haven't picked it up yet, but I'll let you know what was wrong with it and how it's working once I have.
