Personally I like AV Receivers over All in ones. It gives far better flexability.
I have the STR-DH820 (and love it), the DN840 is the newer model.
Ohms. DN840 is rated at 6ohms. DONT use speakers rated less (ie 4), but can use 8ohms fine.
Watts. Unless you intend to cranck the volume to maximum, or intend on el-cheapo speakers - dont worry too much. Try and match up as best as possible though, as if your speakers are to low, and you crank the volume, you will blow the speakers
I good indicator is this : if the AV receiver costs X amount, spend the same on a 5.1 speaker package. Add 10 percent extra for better cables/extras.
Amazon is a good source for reviews as well.
And as always, research everything thoroughly before purchasing anything. Google
Yes, you have correctly identified a flaw in Sony's range at the moment. They no longer do a speaker package (or affordable ones at that). Im hoping that Sony correct that at some stage. I say speaker packages, because they are generally the most affordable way of doing things (when on a budget and require AV Receiver)
The best thing to do, in my oppinion, is search for "5.1 speaker package" on Amazon.
