Hi all,
sorry if this is mentioned elsewhere but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I recently bought a BDP-S185 in February 2012 with the attraction of BBC iplayer and lovefilm etc. And its been doing it's job wonderfully until yesterday. I hhave just got back from a two week trip and when i tried to watch iplayer it's caused my Blu-ray player to freeze on the 'wallpaper' (normal blue line bckground thing, but without the menus).
It wont respond and after quite a while will just turn itself off. Everything else works, and I've tried turning it off at the wall and trying again, a factory reset (though I think thats only regarding the settings) and the firmware is up-to-date.
Has anyone else had a similar issue and if so, how did you resolve it?
Many thanks

Seems that this is not an isolatd issue? I'm having the same problm with my S185 too.
It was working fine, until it updated itself with 'network' content 2 days ago. Since then, when it tries to load the iplayer app. it just locks up... the network router indicates some activity - but nothing happens.. even if i allow it 20 mins or so. The S185, just locks up, it wont respond to the remote or manual 'switching off'... i have to unplug at main before it resets. Its' very annoying, as the iplayer app was the main reason i purchased it in hte 1st place.
Might have to buy myself a PS3 - as i believe iplayer works on that ok and will help turn my Samsung UE32D5000PW TV into a smarterTV?
Hi all
An issue has been found on the S185 which was directly impacting iPlayer performance. Really odd bug, but anyway, an update is being prepared at the moment and will be pushed out shortly. I don't have a precise launch time frame at the moment, but will get some more info this week.
Thanks
Well having taken delivery today of an S185 I was dismayed to find that iPlayer did not work, since this was my primary motive for purchase. At least the forum has assured me that I am not alone, and that a fix is imminent. If not, the player will be rejected right back to the seller as being of 'unmerchantable quality'
To add some context...
I have Virgin Media broadband.
iPlayer works seamlessly for my two Sony BD players (BDP-S470, BDP-S480) and one internet TV (KDL-32EX653)
Not for BDP-S185!!
I have been trying a couple of things....
All other internet services work fine
A factory reset does nothing.
I have tried and succeded with Ben's workaround (29 Oct) - I just used a random website as the proxy with default port setting. Got iPlayer to fail. Returned network settings to default and presto, iPlayer is working.
Just need to wait for Sony's firnware update as a proper fix (else the item's going back to the vendor)

I'll believe this Sony issued bug fix for the S185 when I see it. Let's remember that Sony have known about this exact issue and have had multiple support logs open on it since AUGUST!! Even if they now do eventually trace and fix their bug, it's a perfect example of how technical support for a large company shouldn't operate.
Let's also remember that it was only two weeks ago that Sony phoned me to wash their hands of my 3 month old technical support log because they had isolated the issue and the fault was definitely with my ISP, TalkTalk, not Sony themselves. What rubbish!
I was also getting this lock up problem on access to iPlayer. My ISP is Virgin. I have fixed the problem on my S185 by manually entering the DNS servers.
Go to Network settings, then Wired setup, then manual. You can use the auto settings for most entries, but you need to enter the network DNS settings, I used 194.168.4.100 as primary and 194.168.8.100 as secondary.
I tried various Proxy settings, but these caused continued failure, so I opted for no Proxy.
Try this fix, if it doesnt work first time, Google your ISP's recommended DNS servers and enter those.
Great that you too have a workaround.
Sony please give us an ETA on the bug fix. It is in your interest to resolve this issue because goodness knows how many people are out there with a poor product experience. You cannot afford the Sony brand image to be tarnished.
Here is a fix that works for me.
In network settings, leave them all on auto, except edit the DNS settings which you manually override.
Set primary or both to the IP address of your router.
It seems that where the router gets DNS values automatically, your Sony box needs your router IP Address and not your ISP's true DNS values.
I hope this helps!

E.g. my LAN ip address is 192.168.0.1 , yours may be different. To the admin who edited my post for personal information: My LAN address is not my WAN address, which would be personal. Set your DNS to the LAN ip address of your router, and the BBC iplayer will then work!
Hi all
Ok, actually a rather simple fix has been identified which doesn't require software updates.
This should hopefully permanently resolve the issue. Please feedback if this doesn't work for you.
Thanks
Thanks for this...sadly doesn't work on my machine. No luck with messing with the DNS settings either.
