BDV-E4100 frozen/locked with flashing white LED - software update fail?

Got my EDV4100 home cinema theatre kit in April, and it's been pretty straightforward until today, pretty much six months to the day since I bought it.  Unfortunately, I think I've now fallen foul of a software update failure.

Since I tried to turn it on to watch TV five hours ago, I can't get it to do anything.  The remote control is useless. The buttons on the front of the machine do nothing, apart from the eject button, which sends out the DVD tray but won't take it back in.  The white LED light on the front blinks stradily on and off, about once per second, and while the display reads "TV", as it would when it was playing sound from the TV, no sound is coming out.  I even hear the speakers make the little pop noise they make before they spring into action, but nothing happens.  It's like it's frozen, before eventually it eventually puts itself into standby and powers down.  Turning it back on just starts the cycle all over again.

I've tried power cycling it by unplugging it for three minutes, but nothing has happened.  I've taken out all the cables and checked them, including the TOSLINK, but nothing changes.

There's not a problem with my Sony TV, which is displaying picture perfectly  I've got a signal splitter which goes to the LG TV in the kitchen via an HDMI, and that's playing both sound and picture.

The annoying thing is that since both devices are Sony, the compatibility which lured me to the Sony Home Theatre brand is now working against me, as I can't hear any sound from my Sony TV.  I'm having to increase the volume from the LG TV and blast it into the living room, which is going to make me very unpopular with my neighbours.

Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong?

Same thing has happened to me only I'm in France and the website I bought it off (Cdiscount) wants nothing to do with it and will only refer me to SONY, in other words I'm stuck with a Home cinema system that doesn't work... Seriously considering taking legal action against SONY for selling a faulty product and then asking us to pay to repair it. This is ridiculous.

It's really poor isn't it.

How long have you had your system?

Bought it end of January,  it worked for a while then just stopped loading one day with the constant flashing white light. The annoying thing is when it did work it was awesome. I only bought it because I wanted something with amazing sound and it delivered. Now I'm just stuck staring at a useless piece of equipment wishing it would work again... It wasn't the cheapest of systems and now that it doesn't work I'm livid. I refuse to pay to send it to a SONY repair shop considering it's not even my fault. (And because postage in France is ridiculous, it would probably cost me around 100€ just to send it).

Hi from Lebanon in the middle east

Lately Iam facing the same problem with my e-6100 especially after the latest update R.0257 which is driving me mad.

The dvd freezes when I try to turn it on after pluging the electric cord in the wall and the remote becomes useless as well as the bottons on the unit, the tray goes out but not in, the white led light keeps blinking, nothing works at all. Tried all solutions mentioned including resseting but all failed.

Suddenly and randomly the dvd works.. then when I pull the electric cord out of the wall & then plug it back the proplem appears once again.

9 years ago I have faced disasters with my first sony surround e-880 and now Iam facing the same thing with my e-6100.

ANY SOLUTIONS??????????

Maybe you should check with local support? If you tried everything so far, maybe you should check with an engineer?
