DVP-SR706H Multi-region

Bought this direct from Sony and is described as a multi-region DVD but wont play region 1 DVD's

Any help would be appreciated

I presume you mean DVP-SR760H?

Where does it say multi-region?  Looking at the Sony Website, I can see "Playback multi-format DVDs" but I'm not sure that is the same as 'playback multi-region DVDs'.  However, it is quite confusing.

Play back a wide range of formats - Play from multiple sources including CD-R/RW, DVD+RW/+R/+R DL, DVD-RW/-R/-R DL, JPEG, MP3, MPEG-4WMA, AAC, Linear PCM & Xvid.

Have a look on the back of the player and see what Region Code is shown.  Unfortunately, this website will not let me post an image of the position of the Region Code at the moment - have a look at Page 3 of your Manual here for an image: -

If you look on Amazon, this model is available with REGION 2 PLAYBACK ONLY

specs at the bottom of the tech section state

Signal Format System

PAL / NTSC

Guess I mistakenly thought this would give me NTSC playback ie region 1

Guess i was wrong!

manual says Region 2

is there awy to unlock it?

or is this a hardware upgarde, rather than a remote code?
