External HDD movies

I have a SONY KDL-32EX720. I can not watch movies on external hard drive.

Connected to USB recording, appears as connected, and it formats.

Connected to USB for viewing, HDD-FAT32 = not connected - appears as offline and can not watch movies or photos.

Hi

It will always depend on the codec and containers in which the movies are formatted. Worth checking ot the free Homestream software which can stream these from your PC or MAC irrespective.

Thanks for your answear,

If I have problems with codec, etc, the HDD must apear as connected.

The external HDD is immediately detected on recording USB and is not detected on USB for photos, movies or music.

I don't quite get it. I have WD HDD and Seagate. I Seagate works perfectly, but the WD have this problem. I am not that techy, but would like to know where to see this codec? Thanks.
