Do we need a some specific media player and a Blu-Ray ROM like we have DVD ROM for DVD?

What Sony model(s) are you asking about?  Are you trying to play blu-ray discs on a PC or a TV?

For a PC you will need a compatible BD Optical Drive AND a software BD Media Player like WinDVD BD or PowerDVD BD.  To play to a TV you need a BD Player that connects to your TV by HDMI.
