Popping Sound from Subwoofer of HT-CT290 Soundbar

Hi,

I am trying to use HT-CT290 soundbar with my Sony TV (KD-75XF9005) - both are 2 months old. The issue I am facing is a loud popping/thumping sound coming from subwoofer all the time.

I have performed all the diagnostics tips in public domain from Sony support website and forums, but have been unsuccessful. This includes secure wireless linking of subwoofer to sound bar, changing of wireless frequencies/channels using 2 different routers (Netgear and Skyhub). Soundbar and subwoofer are kept next to each other. There is no other wireless device or microwave within 15 meters of the soundbar.

To further isolate the issue, I have removed all connections from soundbar and switched off Bluetooth of soundbar, but this did not remove the disturbance from subwoofer.

I then took just the soundbar and subwoofer to an outbuilding which is 100 meters away from main house (being rural location there is no other property nearby and hence no interference). On connecting the soundbar and subwoofer to mains supply, subwoofer is still making the same loud popping sound.

I am now lost for ideas and have given up. Not sure if I am missing something or is it poor design by Sony which makes the wireless connectivity of subwoofer unreliable.

Before I bin the unit, I would greatly appreciate help from forum members from past experiences or from Sony support.

Many thanks.

Hi @vimeni, welcome to the Community.

This sort of interference is often due to a fault with the physical connections. I realise you have tested the unit exhaustively, but could you please confirm that you've tried with minimal physical connections, using Bluetooth only, without success?

Thanks

Mick

Hi Vimeni,

Have you tried to reset the sound bar to factory settings? You can find the steps on page 26 of the manual. If you already have an the issue remains, this would mean physical inspection is needed. Your nearest service centre here.
