RDRHXD870. "D---" code problem.

Hi, I have a problem with my rdrhxd870. The code D--- is on the display and I can't watch any TV. As far as the manual tells me, this is the parental lock? I have tried resetting the password, but how exactly do I enter the password at the "D---" display, the password is four digits and there is only space for 3 digits after the "D".

None of this s clear in the manual. I have also tried resetting the machine by holding the stop button and switching off.

Hope someone can help, the only way I can watch tv is by doing a new channel search each time I switch on, and this is rather annoying to have to do each time I switch on, once switched off and back on again, the "D---" display appears again.

Interested to learn how you successfully burnt the firmware to DVD on a Mac.  I can download the firmware OK (correct file size checked), but the only way I know how to burn a DVD is to drag the desktop image of the firmware (called "unknown" on to the DVD image (i.e. as you suggest, not via Disk Utilities).  There seems to be a major problem with burning 1.7 update in the "correct" manner (whatever that is).  The technical description of the burn mode on the Sony Support site means nothing to me.

Clearly a lot of people are having trouble getting the firmware to update, even following the Instructions offered by Sony, using Sony supplied discs (which I have now requested as a last resort).

If anyone wants Sony firmware v1.66 & v1.70 for RDRHXD870 I have spare discs. Directly from Sony and they work.

If anyone needs them I am happy to send them.

You need v1.70 for the DVD to stop losing channels after digital switchover.
