Sony BDP-S185 will not play 'The Help' bluray disc

Hi,

as per title - my Sony BDP-S185 player will not play 'The Help' bluray disc.

The disc looks fine, no scratches or marks, I am using the latest firmware but the disc will not play.  The disc reports correctly on the sony menu as Video disc 'The help' but when I try and play the player makes some noise as though reading, or trying to read from the disc and then the player goes into standby.  Tried re-starting the player but again get disc spinning/reading noise and then the player again goes into standby.

Any ideas ?

Hi Hairy-Boy,

Are you able to play other BD in your S185.?

Is the BD the correct region.?

Have you tried swapping it for another 'The Help' BD.?

Are you able to try the BD in another player.?

Hi,

Lovefilm are sending out another copy of The Help on Bluray for me to try.

We have played a couple of other blu-ray titles on our recently purchased S185 player, Thor and the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo both of which played fine.

We do not have another BD player so cannot try the help in another player.

I will post back once received the 2nd copy of the help from Lovefilm and let you know how that goes.

Received the 2nd copy of 'The Help' on bluray from Lovefilm and it will not play either.

Not sure what region the disc is but the reference on the disc is 'TH11EUE1STA1A'.

Still no update available for my S185 player so a bit stuck on what to try next ?  May have to admit defeat and go back to DVD !

Thanks Thalamus,

any idea how long a fix is likely to take - days or weeks I mean ?

Just wondering if its worth holding onto the help bluray disc (if its going to be days for fix) or if its likely to be weeks or even months I will return and try the DVD instead ?

Thanks again for your help.

EDIT: looks like someone else is having problems with 'The Help' and 'Frightnight' bluray on their sony player:

Hi Hairy-Boy,

I would NOT expect a fix in days so if it's a lovefilm rental then you may want to change for a DVD..

Hi Hairy-Boy,

on similar problem's like this in the past Sony have suggested that you install the latest firmware, which you have done, & also do a factory reset..

If you still have the disc could you try a factory reset of your S185 please, then if the The Help still does not play could you supply as much details as you can from the BD disk please, type of disc (retail or rental), region code, releasing  studio, version, etc. so that I can pass it onto Sony..

I have exactly the same problem with precisely the same symptoms with my Sony BDP-S480.  I have tried two copies of theThe Help on Blu-ray from Lovefilm.  I updated the firmware to the latest version but it made no difference.  I have now requested the DVD version from Lovefilm.  I am concerned that I have purchased a Blu-ray player that won't play some Blu-ray discs.
