Sony hard disc recorder - password

I am trying to access the settings of my hard disc recorder, but cannot remember my password (the default password of "0000" doesn't work.  How can I access the settings, or cancel the password settings?

A possible solution is to reset the recorder: push stop and poweroff button on the deck e reapply the easy setup procedure. You'll loose all the previous setting while keeping all the recording in the HDD.
