SOUNDBAR not playing automatically (defaults to tv speakers) ARC

Hi All.

I am using an LG SH4 soundbar connected to my (Brand New!) Sony KD55XH929 6BU tv via ARC.

issue: the soundbar will connect to the tv no problem, however when I switch the tv off and back on again, the soundbar will not be connected and the tv defaults to ‘tv speakers’

i have read many of these forums and tried many recommendations but nothing will work.

I have the Audio system prioritisation turned on. I have the Sony Bravia sync turned on (and checked it is in the ‘enabled’ list)

nothing else is connected to the tv apart from standard uk tv antenna

if I manually select audio system once the tv is on it will turn on, what is frustrating is that it will not automatically turn on even though it’s set to do that. - annoying for me, but when wife and kids use the tv I may as well not have a soundbar as they don’t know how to do this.

I have tried fiddling with various settings, turning the sound bar off then turning the tv off and back on again - didn’t work

if I turn the soundbar on, wait 5 seconds and then turn the tv on it says it is connected to the audio system but no sound comes out (manually turning back to tv speakers and back again to audio system makes this work).

I feel like I am banging my head against the wall with this - should be so simple. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

thanks

john

Have you tried disconnecting everything and unplugging it all from the wall to depower for 2-3 mins?

Do you have the latest software version installed on your TV?

PS: Does the TV turn On by itself when you turn the soundbar On?

For anyone interested - after trying literally everything advised on all of the threads on this topic I have come to the conclusion that non-Sony Soundbars simply are not always compatible with Sony TVs

from a consumer POV this is very frustrating

however (foolishly)  I decided to buy a new Sony soundbar. I expect this will sync through ARC without issues, otherwise my friend in currys Oxford will be getting an earful.

So, for anyone experiencing these issues, by all means keep trying everything advised on these threads, but keep in the back of your mind that if you can’t get it resolved it likely will be a compatibility issue that can’t be fixed.

That's sadly the hard truth. Getting products from one manufacturer guarantees that at least their functions working together is kept in mind when designing them, and if you run into issues, it's gonna be much easier to get support when both devices are the same make. It's not always true of course, but there's a merit to it (which is a huge part of they way tech is advertised these days, just take a look at Apple and their "Ecosystem")

Anyways, I hope your life gets easier with the new piece
