I purchased my SVR-HDT500 in December 2011 and it's performed pretty well. But occasionally - and these are becoming more frequent - it won't power up when I press the on button: the panel pulses continually, and won't stop until I switch it off at the wall, and then on again. When it's in this sulky mood it doesn't performed timed recordings, either! Any advice would be welcome.
I have exactly the same problem. Been advised to load software update and it hasn't happened since. I must admit that I have put a remote controlled mains socket directly in the mains lead, just in case!
Hello guys
We bought the same unit December 2011 and it has shown the same symptoms as you indicate. However, on checking it seems that the system software is at the latest version v4.21r8585 so I cannot see what else I can do. It is frustrating as the unit can only be brought back to life by switching off at the wall by which time it has missed a number of series recordings.
Is there any other suggestion from other forum member?
Mine is still ok after three weeks I would return to seller if I were you. Overall this machine does not give me the confidence of either my las BT Vision box or panasonic equivalent. The vague flickering every time you switch on and no on indicator light fills me with dread. Let me know what you decide, good luck. Btw does any one know how to set repeat recordings, yet another thing it won't do!

I have had my SVR-HDT500 since December 2011, and as soon as I got it I loaded the 'latest' firmware (Firmware update , 29/07/2011).
All worked fine until a couple of weeks ago, then started getting issues where it wont power up (as described above).
What changed a couple of weeks ago? Could it be Freeview changes for the Olympics? There was a message to re-tune and I have seen the issue since that.... I have retried a full retune too.
Anyone else with similar experience/timing ?
I have this problem as well. I am starting to lose faith with sony recently. Especially as this seems to be a major problem with this unit and very little seems to answered about it. I am a big fan of sony but the only bit of tech i havent had problems with (surrond sound system [power problems] & PS3 [overheating and noise problems]) recently is my Bravia TV :smileycry:.
Plus with the added ear ache i get from the my girlfriend about the price of the recorder and it not working does not fill me with confidence in buying sony in the future. My problem with this unit is exactly as stated above.
