UBP-X800 not powering on

My wife was playing a Blu-Ray a few days ago and the player stopped  and lost power and signal. I’ve changed the fuse in the 13amp socket but still won’t power on. The disc is still inside. The player is about 15 months old. Any help would be appreciated

Hello @Roscoe85,

unplug it and hold the two buttons on the front of the device at the same time you plug it back in.

Thanks Nic for your quick response.

i tried a few times and it doesn’t seem to work. I held it for 30 seconds, should I try it for longer?

Any Sony customer support people have any ideas on this issue??? I just had the same thing happen, this UBP-X800 is now a brick!! I've had this thing on maybe 5x to watch movies... and now it's useless. Unacceptable. I expect higher quality out of Sony... as I've been a loyal fan and long-time customer of theirs.

The units front (green) LED comes on when plugged in... but no response whatsoever with any front buttons (except the 'Eject'), or remote and no video on the tv screen. *****?!?

There has to be a fix for it, maybe a patch for corrupt firmware or something. I am not happy that my $300.00 UHD player is now useless after using it a handful of times...

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks,

Gregg S.

Hello @GSchwizzy,

your issue seems to be a completly different one.

You most likely just need to reset your video output of the device which is explained in the manual:

Output resolution reset.Output resolution reset.

if the player comes on (indicated by showing a green light) and the disc tray opens, it is either that or your cable has gone bad/the TVs HDMI input is no good anymore.

If the reset doesn't help, try using another cable. Also verify the selected input source on the TV is the right one where the player is actually connected.

Although my x800 is older than yours, I've had the exact same problem. Suddenly it just won't power on or react to the remote. All the Sony fixes failed, and they told me that since it's beyond warranty, I'll have to send it to their authorized service center in New Jersey. I called that center and was told that they can no longer get parts for this model.

Have you had any luck in finding a solution? I find Sony exceptionally remiss in not offering help or even maintaining the parts chain on a $300 unit that's less than two years old.

I was lucky I took mine to a Sony Repairer in the UK who repaired it by replaced a board £80, went ahead with the repair as it was cheaper than buying a new one, but I only have a 3 months warranty on the repair 😞

Have you found a resolution to this issue?  My player is now not powering on.  Frustrating that I paid $300 for a 4K player that stopped working after a couple of years.  I'm trying to figure out why the most expensive one that I bought is now a brick while I still have other Blu Ray players (Panasonic) that are working 8-10 years later.

Same problem here: Bought the unit in late 2017, 3 years later (after using it maybe 20 times over this period) it wouldn't power on any more all of a sudden. No lightning strikes whatsoever hit my equipment, everything else works just fine. But the UBP-X800 is a brick now, with no lights showing, no reaction to remote control, buttons, or hot-blooded curses. Since it is out of warranty, I opened it and measured the fuse, which shows current flow.

No idea what to do with it. Wouldn't even sell for use as spare parts store, even though at least the drive should be in mint condition.

Crap.
