The new Android TV OS update is here. Marshmallow 6.0 is available to download, along with new features to make your life easier.

Android Marshmallow 6.0

What’s new?

The Marshmallow update is all about added convenience and ease of use. Compared to the previous version, Lollipop, the Home screen is more streamlined. It has customisable organisation ‘shelves’ and you can find and sort TV shows quickly as they are now grouped by genre.

There’s also a visual revamp for the Smart help facility. Accessed by pressing the Help button on your remote control, it contains improved product use and troubleshooting information.

An added bonus is the ability to use USB sticks and removable hard drives as additional storage. You can now transfer games and apps onto them, saving storage space on the TV and transporting your entertainment more easily.

How to get the update

Your TV will download the update automatically as part of a phased rollout. The ‘Automatic software download’ setting must be ‘on’.

You can use your TV normally while the download happens, but not while it is installing. Installation takes up to 30 minutes (depending on the speed of your internet connection) and you’ll be asked to confirm you want to begin. It’s important not to interrupt the installation by pressing any buttons or disconnecting the power; loss of power can result in hardware damage that needs repair.

If your own internet connection is slow, you can download the update elsewhere onto a USB stick and transfer it to your TV. The update is available from the Sony support website: http://services.sony.co.uk/support/en/welcome-to-android-marshmallow?showHeaderFooter=false

You can also check for updates manually, following the instructions at https://sony-eur-eu-en-web--eur.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/66441/knowledgebase/1/

Notes:

Please note that it is not possible to revert back to the previous operating system after installing the Marshmallow update. You may also need to update settings and apps.
