My Microphone isn't working. It seems like this problem is all too common with the xperia m4 aqua.
When I run diagnostics test, I only get static, which sounds like an aeroplane taking off. I can't make phone calls because the other person doesn't hear me, and I can't record sound in video.
This has happened to me before, it also happened a few months ago. Back then, I resolved by switching off noise supression, and everything was fine again. But that solution isn't working this time.
The most recent date that I know it was working was May 24th. Since then, because I had storage issues with the phone, only about 200mb left, I was forced to do several apps uninstalling / force stop / etc, anything I could do to free up storage. This may have caused an issue somewhere.
So I'm convinced that it's a software issue.
I've read through dozens of possible solutions, none have worked so far.
Here is a list of everything that I have tried -
1. Turned off noise suppression.
2. Did a software update on xperia companion.
3. Uninstalled two known apps that I installed since May 24th. God knows what other apps this phone installs in the backround.
4. Removed SD card.
5. OK Google detection is off.
6. Updated google app.
7. I have read a few things about interference from the headphone jack but my mic still fails diagnostics test when headphones are plugged in.
8. Reset app preferences.
9. Updated as many apps as possible (although memory issues mean I can't update all apps right now, for example google drive, chrome browser, android system webview, gmail).
10. Ran diagnostics test in safe mode.
There must be a simple solution to this. It's probably an app conflict or something very easy to resolve.
Any other things I can try, guys??
Model number is E2303
Android version 6.0.1.
Thanks in advance, Richie.
Bump.
Sony Support, I need a solution to this, otherwise I will have to purchase a new phone.
Same problem here,
Found any solution???
Hey,
No I haven't found a solution yet. None of the Sony moderators have answered yet so I guess it's still a mystery.
Though I made a video yesterday and it did record the audio. But when I make a phone call or run the diagnosticts test, there is only static. That's what I can't understand. Maybe there is two microphones built in, I don't know.
I can't afford to purchase a new phone for a while.
I'm using my phone for Internet browsing and whatsapp messages only. Heaven forbid that I have an emergency and need to call the police, ambulance, or fire department.
The only way i managed to kind of fix this problem is by pressing the lower part of the phone . Which means that the problem is not in the software but in the hardware. I read that although the phone is waterproof , somehow the glue that connects the mic to the phone doesn't work as it is supposed to after the phone is submerged under water. Also the overheating issues kind of destroy the glue. So as i said in the beginning the only solution (if the problem is on the hardware) is to hold the bottom speaker tightly. Here's where i read that - https://forum.xda-developers.com/m4-aqua/help/solution-primary-mic-error-m4-aqua-t3468687
Hi Amber,
Thanks a lot, I am noticing a slight difference in the sound when i squeeze the microphone. So I guess now the only solution is to get is fixed at a Sony repair centre, or buy a new phone.
