My new SP has a charging "issue". It charges fine with the charger provided with the phone and from a USB socket on my PC (Dell Latitude E6500) - but only when the PC is active. I have configured the PC to "PowerShare" the appropriate USB socket - that is, for it to be powered even when the PC is in sleep mode. This works: I checked with a USB lamp and found that the voltage under 200mA load is 4.96V both in PowerShare sleep mode and when the PC is active (i.e. there is no measurable voltage change). However, the phone does not charge in PowerShare. The voltage of the charger provided is 4.94V under the same conditions, by the way. The phone also does not charge from the "aux" USB socket in a (new) hire car nor from a USB adapter plugged into the cigarette-lighter socket of the same limo.
If, as it seems, all this has nothing to do with the USB voltage, what is the problem and how can it be solved?

REALLY! why does the phone need a data connection to charge! it would seem like a reason for returning the phone and getting my money back...
As i understand it the phone and charger needs to be able to "communicate" with each other according to the common charging standard used for mobile phones. I suspect that your PC (when powered off) and the 3:rd party charger you used only provides power and nothing else.
The USB-unit in many cars doesn't support MTP. Try inserting a microSD in the phone and then select MSC as USB connection mode under Settings -> Xperia -> USB connectivity. That should allow your car to identify the phone and provide charging.
Thanks. This worked for me. A bit fussy just to charge the thing though.
I face touch problems while charging ? why is it so ? other xperia phones like z and all aren't facing this problem.
