updating problem android

hi

i'm using xperia x10 and updating it but internet access is very slow in India, it has been taken 1.5 hours already. please suggest if i unplug the data cable from my pc and i am not sure if backup is done. memory card is inserted. my android 1.6 trying to update to 3

SUS ( Sony Update Service)  ... download and install it on pc and follow the on-screen instructions http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/Software%20Downloads/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe
