Ex-FAT USB not being recognised on KD43XF7073 (2018)

I have a 32GB San Disk USB stick formatted through Disk Utility on a Mac computer, it has been formatted as Ex-FAT

on Master Boot Record partition, my new Sony Television does not recognise it (the TVs manual says it does), my older Sony TV (2012) has no such problems. If I format it as FAT 32 it will be seen but of course this restricts the file size to 4GBs which is no use in this HD and 4k age. So is anybody else using USB sticks formatted as Ex-FAT through Disk Utility in macOS and using a similar aged TV, I would like to hear from you.

Hi Davey

I found in the Help Guide of your TV that the supported USB file formats are FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS. It doesn't seem to support exFAT.

NTFS should be good enough as it doesn't limit the file size to 4GB like FAT32.

Thanks for replying to my enquiry.

So read the article and yes ex-FAT does not seem to be supported, but in another article I found it does seem to be,

and clicking on Applicable models it lists my TV. So confusing isn't it.

As for NTFS, as I mentioned in my enquiry I am on a Mac, Macs can natively read NTFS formatted devices but cannot write to them, and there is no option to format to NTFS in Macs Disk Utility. 

If Sony have removed the facility to read ex-FAT formatted devices, this is a backward step, why would you keep FAT 16 and FAT 32 which limit file size, especially as the TV is 4k ready, bonkers.

Hi Davey,

That does appear to be contradictory. But since the model specific manual as well as the actual practical test results point to the fact that the TV doesn't support exFat, I'd say the article will need to be edited in this case so I'll raise feedback about it.
