How to stop change channel prompt for HD?

TV Model: KDL-32CX523
Ver:PKG4.002EUA.0104

Hi,

When watching a standard definition channel such as BBC1, every time the next program is availabkle in HD then a prompt is shown on screen asking me if I want to change to HD. Is there a way to stop this prompt?

Thanks!

This prompt is unbelievably annoying.

None of the "solutions" here have worked for me.

Despite what Sony say, this message is NOT generated by the Freeview signal.

The TV generates it, triggered by information in the signal. The TV does not have to generate it. It should be simple for Sony to remove this from the firmware.

As mentioned above, this link http://sonycic.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1878/ states

"Bravia : On screen broadcast message prompt, change channel to HD option ?

HD Broadcast on screen message prompt, switch to HD ?

Can this on screen message be switched off ?

Due to customer demand and as requested, this prompt feature has now been removed."

Let me emphasize that again: "Due to customer demand and as requested, this prompt feature has now been removed"

IT HAS NOT!

IT SHOULD BE REMOVED.

(Or make it a system option just in case someone likes it. Options are good.)

Delboy60 has cracked it! But why should switching off the Low Noise Amplifier stop the message?

Thanks again! Peter

Spoke too soon - It seems that my test (put TV in standby, wait a few seconds then power back on) didn't cause the question to be asked. The next day it was back! 😞

This is so annoying and should be sorted ASAP
(This event is available on service 107 Do you want to
Change to HD event?) No l x#*#π! Dont.!
I have a Sony KDL40CX523
I can't get a good picture with BBC HD but I
am happy with the picture I get on cn80.
If this is a Sony problem it would put me off buying another sony set.
I thought I was just stupid and couldn't find the
answer in my manual.
I can only asume they want to Force people into buying
a new set. Or to annoy people into getting full HD to bombard
People with sony mesages.
Geoff.

Hi there

There is another thread in regards to this issue :

http://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/how-to-disable-the-message-quot-this-event-is-available-o...

Currently this is an issue that effects many people.  I have chased this issue up with Sony many times, and unfortunately have got no where at this stage.  Any feedback that I receive, I will post into that thread above.

Cheers.

You raise a very important point about the remote; I would also like to point out how annoying this prompt is if you misplace the remote (something that seems to happen quite often in our house!!). Also if children are watching TV they often don't know how to get rid of the message, whether they have the correct remote or not. Sometimes my daughter watches the non-HD Cbeebies channel as the reception can be a bit patchy on the HD channel, so I often end up with an irate toddler whining at me when a big box pops up in front of her favourite programme!

Hi all

This problem has been resolved with the latest firmware update.

I hope you're right.

But where do I find the details of what's included in the firmware update?

All I can see is:

"

  • Benefits and improvements:
    • Improves the TV performance

"

Unbelievable!

Would it hurt to tell us what's changed?

Tell me about it - I have been campaigning for more detailed information - Its not going to happen anytime soon anyhow.  So unfortunately that is it.
