Hi to resolve this issue please follow the guide below;

  1. Turn on your PlayStation 3 and go into Settings -> System Update. Download the latest 3.50 update.
  2. Go into Settings -> Display Settings -> Video Output Settings. Start a new search.
  3. PS3 now tells you that your TV supports 1080p. Click again, and PlayStation 3 tells you that your TV supports 3D. Adjust the size of the TV.

Very good, but do not forget to select 3 D option on  TV.

Just for others who might stumble onto this topic in future, I hadn't realised that you also have to enable the full stereoscopic 3D function within the game itself - for example Gran Turismo and Killzone 3. Unless you actually go into the game display settings and turn it on, you'll only get simulated 3D which doesn't look very good at alll compared to native 3D.

Hope this helps others
