Sony Bravia 4K Sky Q 3D issues

I have just bought an Nvidia Shield TV and upgraded to Sky Q to make the most of my Sony 4K TV - thinking (wrongly) my Sony TV would support this tech (seeing as though my TV was one of the most expensive in its class - a 75" S90).

But to my dismay, if you select a picture resolution of 2160p this prevents selection of 3D options in a Sony Bravia TV. When trying to select 3D an error appears "Feature not available with current signal."

Returning to 1080p or 1080i allows selection of 3D but if the res is changed back to 2160p the 3d option is greyed out.

If I change down to 1080p the Nvidia doesn't work at all. So I'm now stuck between a rock and a hard place, it appears i can have 4K or 3D - but not both? Even when the movie isn't a 4K one.

Anyone else experienced this/have a solution?

Hi there

Correct - this is not unique to Sony - there is no such thing as 4K 3D movies, they dont exist.  Hence why there is no 3D option when outputting at 2160p

I'm confused, according to the Sky Q community owners of LG and Samsung don't have this problem.

Is it becuase other brands auto switch the resolution - whereas Sony just blocks the signal out completely?

Hi there

Just re-reading your original post and has left me with a few questions.

Firstly, you mention about changing resolutions - well you cant do this on the TV, so this leads me to believe that you are changing the resolution on the Sky Q box?  But then you say that the Nvidia Shield box doesnt work in 1080p??   How have you connected this all up?  You should have a HDMI cable going from each device directly to the TV - is this the case?

Secondly, why doesnt the Nvidia Shield work in 1080p?  The following link contains a couple of pictures where you have the choice to output different resolutions:

Cheers

Edit: However I did find this link too - but have a look at the last comment on page 2 - Im not familiar with Nvidia Shield products, but is the Nvidia Shield Android TV different from Nvidia Shield TV?
