What's the best USB HDD to buy for recording from KDL-22EX55x TV?

Hi,

any powered HDD will work fine though Sony have in the past recommended the Western Digital My Book Essentials one.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I have the same model tv.(albeit 26"version)

I have installed a 500gb Toshiba HDD btw

However I cannot record a programme.......without watching it as well !, the TV turns over to it at the allotted time, and does not allow me to watch another channel, without stopping recording.

Please tell me my "smart TV" is smarter than that.

Just bought a KDL 32WD756 partly due to the USB HDD Recording feature.  So far Sony support have only managed to point me at one HDD that will actually record from it - SONY HD-EG5U which is not easy to find, and not cheap.

I did spot another comment elsewhere that because the TV only has one tuner, it can only record one channel, and therefore you cannot watch a different one. It is therefore presumably only useful for recording when you're not watching.  Not a very useful feature then.  Better to buy a PVR such as a Humax box which will let you record 2 channnels and watch a 3rd, all for similar money (for a used box) to this obscure HDD

Pretty disappointing really.
