I have replaced the AC adaptor on my VAIO VGN-NR21 but it has blown again. Would a power surge take out adaptor (very old wiring in the house) or would the laptop suffer? I don't want to buy a 3rd adaptor if it is the laptop but could buy a surge protector.
Thanks,
Ian

Hi Ian,
Yes a power surge can destroy a power adaptor. Although the power adaptor acts as a regulator via the rectifier, converting AC to DC, this is not a power surge protector as such.
A good quality power surge protector is the way forward.
