£365 to repair laptop keyboard

My boss puts all his hardware to full use, and is constantly using his laptop. His last laptop was a 2010 Sony Vaio Z series, and is now using a 2011 Z series.

Two of the keyboard keys have randomly popped out and all we need are two keys to pop back on.

Looking at the repair section of this site, there are only 3 "repair centres" in London. I have contacted one and they have quoted £255.71 to replace the laptop keyboard, plus £90 labour charge, plus £10 postage and packaging.

Surely there must be some spare keyboard keys that can be sent out from Sony? We would even pay for the keys if needed.

Shocking stuff, knowing that people who have a problem with their Apple phone/laptop can go in to the store and they will give you a new one free.

£90 labour charge for something I can do in 5 minutes, crazy.

The laptop is in warranty as well.

Sort it out Sony.

Hi MSE_Jason and welcome.

This is a user forum - no replies from Sony here!

For their own reasons, Sony have stopped supplying individual key replacements - they used to send up to 5 free.

Either the whole keyboard has to be replaced, or you can usually buy individual keys from eBay: -

Alternatively, new keys can be sourced in the US and shipped: -

Sorry there is no easy answer.
