Attention VGN-CS11 users and SONY!! Problem with FAN!

Hi everyone!

If you have recently bought a new VGN-CS11 series notebook, I'd ask that you take a moment to read this post.

Since I unboxed the new notebook, I have been experiencing strange noises from the fan unit evey time it operates. Before, it used to be simply that every time the fan stopped working, it made a soft "growl" noise (probably due to some internal vibration) for a mere second or two. Recently, however, it has also begun to make a strange, barely audible "clicking sound" as the fan starts up and operates, accompanied by the "growl" at the end, like before. At first, I was led to believe that it was just the normal operating noise that the fan made (although quite annoying!), but due to these recent developments, I am more and more convinced that this is some problem or malfunction that perhaps, will only get worse with time.

Other CS11 users have already posted in the thread "Problem with fan!!" that they also experience this problem, and, from what I've been able to gather, it does not seem like an isolated problem... but this is what we need to confirm.

That is the purpose of this thread.

I would like to ask and encourage all CS11 users to post in this thread if they also experience the same "problem" with the fan (abnormal noises that are clearly distinguishable from normal operation) or anything fan-related, especially if you have experienced them since you bought the notebook and haven't done anything that could "provoke" them (like dropping the notebook or hitting it in some way, blocking the ventilation vents, etc...). This is to have a general scope that this is not an isolated problem that is only happening to a few, and that way, perhaps Sony will take an interest and take the necessary measures to correct this problem if this, in fact, turns out to be a generalised problem.

I have already created a new case with e-Support regarding this issue. Note that these are brand new laptops that have been out on sale for barely a month, and now would be a good time to correct any problems that may arise. If this turns out to be a common problem for most CS11 users, then we should all contact Vaio-Link or e-Support and report the problem, so that Sony will take this problem into consideration if enough people have it.

Remember: the sooner, the better!

Also, perhaps it would also be of interest that those CS11 users that DON'T experience this problem also post in this thread, to see how many DO and how many DON'T... it may be interesting to also know.

Ok... without taking any more of your time, I leave this thread to fellow CS11 users and to anyone that might be able to lend a helping hand. Thanks!!!

Heyyy alll.
Goood news...
I took a ticket number from Vaio Link and i went to the repair center with my VGN-CS11S/Q
"There is a noise like "Gırrr" while starting and stoping the fan" i said. And i clicked the youtube links. I showed them. They listened the voice.
Repair center said that: "We know the problem and we will change your fan with a new serie-new party fan to correct it."
Than they changed my fan. And there ise no "gırr" or "wırr" (like on the youtube)sound now.
Everything is fine. Super.... I am very happy. Because i liked my laptop very much.
I hope "gırr" sound won't come back.
Many thanks to Sony Vaio repair center in İstanbul.
I wish yours will be fixed as soon as possible.
New fan model number: A1563410A
But in your country it may be different number.

Let's hope that this is the beginning of the end...

i think it's the best thing you can do, coral pink... i'm also sending mine tomorrow. However, I'm calling them again and asking them if they can tell me the part number of the new fan to see if it's actually the new one, i don't want to send it yet a third time... :slight_frown:

i bought a cs11 approx 3 weeks ago, and so far sony have had it for 2 of those weeks! as soon as i got my laptop the fan made the annoying whirring sound so i contacted sony and they picked it up and replaced the fan, when i got it back it still made the same noise and also for good measures then made the krrrrrr noise when the fan stopped! it went back again and this time they said it was fine and they replaced nothing, i now have it back and it still makes the same noises.
sony need to start accepting responsibility for this problem, if they cant fix it they should refund your money or give you a new sony laptop that is equal or better that doesnt have known problems. i have a sony tv,camera, video camera and now this laptop but will NEVER buy another sony product again if they do not sort this problem out soon.
if anyone else experiences the same problem and its withing your return period then get it back to the shop and get your money back, do not waste your time with sony.

I've had the same problem and therefore I sent my vaio to be repaired. I'm still waiting for the computer and I really hope they put in a brand new fan.
You pay so much money and you have to repair it after a couple of months, that's not acceptable. I wonder when Sony is gonna realise that this is a big problem..

If it makes the same noise again i really don't know what to do. It's a good computer besides the fan-issue.

Hi coral pink,

normally packaging should be provide for your Vaio, make sure your Vaio is placed in the packaging before the carrier leaves otherwise your Vaio could get damaged..

yes they definately provide the packaging, well they have with me twice anyway!
further updates from sony, basically they have said the engineer says its ok so thats the end of the story as far as they are concerned even though my laptop still makes the whistling and grinding noise when the fan has stopped!
i then asked them if it is supposed to make that noise and they said no so we are now at stalemate.
so basically i have a brand new sony cs11 that cost £800 that is now sitting doing nothing as it is too irritating to use. thanks sony!
does anyone else have any ideas on what to do as they just arent listening?
