Backing up

I want to back up my laptop to an external harddrive as I think it's on it's last legs

Just wondering, if I have a purchased copy of Microsoft word or other pay ware software how would I back it up or can't I? ( must I buy new software)

You can only back up your files and folders and other software installer you have aside from the default programs installed by default in your system. For this, you have to buy separately.
