Battery not working

Hi, i recently had an extremely bad virus, it completely wipeout my system. so i reinstalled windows but now my battery isn't working. Its plugged in but the computer doesn't detect it. I know it could be that the battery is simply broke but before i splash out on a new one i was woundering if there are any other possible causes that i can try?

a simple way to check if it's a battery or possible hardware problem is to take your Vaio to a local stockist and ask if you can try another battery in your Vaio..
