hi all, i've just come home with my first blu ray dvd, MI3
my setup: ar21s with hdmi -> dvi-d adapter, hooked up to a dell ewfp 22" 1000000% hdcp compatible
blu ray plays fine on laptop monitor
however, when trying to play on the external, intervideo decides to say that 'WinDVD cannot start playback of protected contents with current display settings. Please change a display setting of the system'
is this HDCP related? both the laptop and monitor are hdcp compatible, maybe the adapter isn't? but thinking about how hdcp works, isn't it the devices themselves that determine compatibility, and not the connectors?
any help would be greatly appreciated!
Which Dell monitor do you have?
Some of these like the E228WFP 22 inch only support HDCP up to 720p because the native resolution is below 1080. (Often 1680 X 1050)
Will it play at 720p ?
how do i set it to run at 720?
Change the output resolution in:
Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced
Try something like 1366 X 768
I'm wondering if it's HCCP too
Had the same problem with my AR31s, the laptop was trying to play the movie through both the laptop screen and LCD (dual monitor), which it doesn't like to do (confuses the HDCP I guess). I've solved it by going into control panel (Vista), and in the screen resolution settings window, set the correct resolution for your LCD (may take some fine adjustment with powerstrip depending on your LCD) on the associated monitor (usually no. 2), when you've got the correct res for the LCD sorted, select this as the main monitor and disable the check box which allows the desktop to be displayed through the laptop screen then the play the movie again and it should be ok. Have an open case on this issue with e-support who can't seem to solve this themselves! I have found that playback is very jerky, even when no other apps are running in Vista, yet to solve this one.
