can i get 5.1 through optical out in VGN A417S's docking station? please help

Hi,

i really hope someone can help me because i'm going crazy with this tonight
i've just bought a optical cable and i connected my Vaio VGNA417S docking station's optical out to my sony's DAV-S500 Home cinema's optical but when i play dvds or even Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon for SACD 5.1 the sound only comes from 2 channels in the home cinema and if i try to change the sound fielnd in the home cinema, the home cinema display says 2 channels 96kHz.....is there any setting i need to change in the laptop or maybe the laptop sound card simply doesn't support 5.1?
Is there any solution for this please

I am afraid that is your problem. You will need an external 5.1 USB or PCMCIA sound card:smileysad:

thanks a lot for your reply
i have checked online and it looks like i can only buy an external USB SoundWave Optical 5.1 product from US shops (i live in the UK) and shipping is very expensive

They are available in the UK, have a look here, but also try a further Google with UK in the search field.
