CD drive

The cd drive on my Vaio Laptop does not seem to work as nothing is being read when I put the cd in. I have the VGN-N31M laptop.

When I click on computer, the hard disk drive is shown as well as the memory card slots but the CD-rom does not appear. I cannot seem to get it to work, any advice? How do I fully system restore i.e. put it back to its factory settings?

Hi efeilguy and welcome to Club Vaio.

Go to Device Manager and expand the section for DVD/CD-ROM Drives.

Is your drive shown and does it have a yellow warning ! next to it? If yes, double-click on the drive and let me know the error code shown. If it is code 19, 31, 32, 39 or 41 then a small registry edit should sort the problem.
