hi,
i have a vaio vgn fs485b and i have a problem with my cdrom.
my brother have uninstall many unused softwares, and i think that he have removed by mistake the cdrom driver or firmware.
now, the cdrom is not recognized, and in the device manager list, i see a yellow bullet on the DVD/CD-ROM drive, on the line: sony dvd rw dw=q58a.
can you tell me which driver/firmware do i need to reinstall? and where can i found it?
thanks a lot
bob
Hi Bob,
welcome to Club VAIO..
In device manager, are there any error codes reported next to the CD/DVD drive.
Hi Thalamus,
Thanks for your answer and sorry for the late response. I didn't had access to my laptop for few days.
I don't see any error code next to the cd/dvd drive.
Thanks again
bob
Double-click on the Sony DW-Q58A in device manager.
You should see an error code - like Code 39 or Code 43
I have a code 39 error.
Thanks Blencogo
Hi Bob,
A small change to your Vaio's Registry will cure your problem and get your drive working again. I recommend that you set a System Restore Point before you start.
Then:
1.Press the ‘Windows’ key and press R. In the Run box type: REGEDIT , and hit enter.
2. Navigate to –
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
click on this and locate UpperFilters in the right-hand window, (if it exists) right click on UpperFilters and select Delete and then OK.
3. Under the same Registry Key locate LowerFilters, (if it exists) right click on LowerFilters and select Delete and then OK.
4. Quit Registry Editor and re-boot the computer, new registry values will be created that will hopefully cure the problem.
After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, you may possibly need to re-install your burning software if it doesn't work – but this is not usually required
Good Luck!
.
It works. Thanks a lot, Blencogo
