Connection to External Hard Drives with USB 2.0/3.0

I have a Vaio PCV-V1 all in one with Windows XP. There is no memory left so I'm looking to buy an external hard drive. The machine only has standard USB ports so it won't fit most hard drives currently on the market. Please can someone recommend a device I can use, or is it a question of buying a cable that will allow it to connect to a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 hard drive?

Thank you.

Hi Woodentrainforever,

I think your model has a PC card slot so the way forward is probably a PCMCIA to USB 2 cardbus. There are plenty on the market for less than £10.
