Control Alt Delete

I have a VGN-c2s laptop with Vista Home Premium. When I try to use CONTROL ALT DELETE to reset and stop programs nothing happens and has not happened since new. I usually have to remove the power cable and battery in order to restart my computer. Anyone any ideas how to rectify?

Hi gindave and welcome to Club Vaio.

Are you trying to open Task Manager in Vista? Ctrl+Alt+Del should bring up a Menu of options like this: -

Lock this computer
Switch User
Log off
Change a password
Open Task Manager

If you want to open Task Manager directly in Vista you can do it two ways: -

1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc - this does exactly what Ctrl+Alt+Del used to do

2. Right-Click on the Taskbar and choose Task Manager from the Context Menu

The action of Ctrl+Alt+Del in XP depends on three things: -

Is the PC part of a Domain?
Is Fast User Switching enabled?
Is the Welcome Screen turned on?

Hi, Many thanks for your helpful response. My computer occasionally freezes and responds to absolutely nothing your help has enabled me to see a screen never before shown on my machine. I will see what happens next time it freezes. Your response much appreciated, thanks,Gindave
